Newspaper: Solomon Islands bans US military ships from entering its ports

The "Financial Times" writes that the Solomon Islands is banning US Navy ships from its ports.

The newspaper quoted a statement from the US embassy in Canberra (Australia) confirming that it had received an official notification from the Solomon Islands government that "a ban on all military naval visits is pending pending protocol updates."

The newspaper pointed out that this report became another indication of the tension that exists in the Pacific region.

Last week, Stars and Stripes reported, citing a US Border Patrol statement, that the Solomon Islands authorities had not allowed a US Coast Guard vessel to enter a port there.
